Essay: sociology of culture contributions and limitations

Among the benefits that sociology has as a social science, it is a very wide range of research areas, from sociology of work to sociology of education. One of the areas in which I have been going through the university has interested me the most is the sociology of culture, however, we only have one elective in this area and within the more structural areas it is not so recognized. In this essay, I will comment broadly on what is the sociology of culture and what are its contributions to the study of society. The sociology of culture is an area of sociology dedicated to the systematic analysis of culture, usually understood as the set of symbolic codes used by the members of a society, as they manifest themselves socially. In this way, culture is analyzed from the ways of thinking and conceiving the world, the ways of acting, and the material objects that, as a whole, shape the way of life of a group. Within their contributions we can identify the recognition of culture as a factor t...

In recent years, the use of new technologies and social networks, the internet, mobile telephony, video games and television have been installed rapidly in our lives. Regarding this, there are many who defend the great educational and communication potential of new technologies, however it has also been shown that their excessive or inappropriate use could be bringing serious consequences. Prison and civilization: Concluding paragraph

In conclusion, I believe that we should rethink our prison system. Is it focused on social reintegration or only on punishment? What is the moral consideration that we are giving to those deprived of liberty? Besides, I think it is important to reflect on the relationship between crime and the inequality that exists in the countries, and guide the discussion of prison systems towards new forms of reincernment, which include psychological, labor and community accompaniments for prisoners  and also for society in general.

Obesity as a public health problem

Obesity should be considered a public health problem, since its existence shows us that there is a cultural problem: how we eat and what we can eat , a cultural problem that requires education, on the one hand, about habits healthy food and how conscious eating is an integral part of a good lifestyle, and on the other, the most important in my opinion, is that it requires a democratization of what we consider good nutrition, since not everyone can access vegetables all week, not everyone has time to plan their meals and not everyone has money to go to the nutritionist. However, there are also those who defend the idea that obesity or big bodies are not always synonymous with poor health, thinness has always been part of the hegemony of beauty, so the existence of big bodies revolutionizes that hegemony and shows that the existence of big bodies not necessarily mean sick bodies. However, with regard to Chile, I do not know how feasible it would be, since economic interests are cro...

Chilean education: Some people say that education is the most powerful weapon. Education understood as an important part of the socialization of individuals, and as a vital component of social and cultural capital. It seems that d...
